I was in the line to pay for my groceries. a woman in a wheelchair came up behind me and looked to be struggling to unload her shopping, so I offered assistance.
We had a quick chat as you may do after doing something like this. When i came to pay for my shopping my card was declined. I was incredibly embarrassed, and now worried about my financial situation I put my already packed (but unpaid for) groceries to the side so I could try and check my balance online while others paid for their items.
A few minutes later the person working the register came over and told me that the woman behind me had paid for my items. I thanked the woman, and she said, “One good turn deserves another.”
It was really touching that she did that. I ended up giving her my number. I told her if she ever needed anything that I would be glad to help her out. Well, just a few weeks later she gave me a call, and asked me if I would help her organize a few things in her house because she didn't have anyone to help her out and she possibly had some family coming into town.
I told her I would be glad to help and I would be over the next day, which was Saturday, bright and early. I arrived in the morning, and knocked on the door, she answered and invited me in. The awesome thing she did was she made some breakfast and coffee, which surprised me. I didn't expect all of this to happen.
I sat down to eat, and we decided to talk and learn more about each other. She tells me stories about growing up with her family and tells me about her siblings. I tell a few stories as well. I end up helping organize, move items and she was very thankful.
She ended up giving me a big hug and I went on about my day. We stay in touch at least once a week to see how each other is doing. This person has become someone I can truly call a friend.
